Pinewood Derby Information - 2/8 & 3/8
Build Day: We will have tools available for Scouts to come have their car kit cut out on Saturday, February 8 from 1-3pm. We will be located behind the Parish Hall building at the back garage. This is a drop in event for time with the tools available. We'll also have a few cut examples and templates. All car decorating should be done at home over the following month before the Race Day. All racers will need to purchase a car kit from the Cape Fear Scout Shop ($7) although the Pack will have a few extras as well.
Race Day: We will host this year’s Pinewood Derby on Saturday afternoon, March 8. The derby will be hosted in the St Mark Catholic School gym. The track will be set up and ready for an afternoon of fun!! Dens will compete against each other in the den group listed below only – then the top 3 from each den group will compete in the overall Pack Championship.
Rules are as follows:

Only official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby wheels and axles are permitted. Additional wheels can be purchased separately.
Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited.
Official wheels and axles may not be altered in any way.

If, at registration., a car does not pass inspection, the owner will be informed of the reason for failure, and will be given time within the official weigh-in time period to make the adjustment.
After final approval, cars will not be re-inspected unless the car is damaged in handling or in a race.
If, during a race, a car leaves its lane and, in so doing, interferes with another racer, then the race will be run again.
Cars that fail to follow these rules will not be allowed to race.
A computer program will be used with the track that calculates each heat and allows each participant to race in each lane of the track each one time. Once cars are checked in they will only be handled by the race committee. Cars will not be handled unless it comes off the track during a race and needs to be repaired. Repair time will be granted if this occurs. The division racing will be allowed in Pit Row during those races.
All participants with a car will be allowed to vote 1 time for their favorite decorated derby car.
At the conclusion of the Pack Championship division – we will host an Outlaw Division! This division is for all parents and non-scout siblings who want to take the opportunity to build a derby car side by side with their scout.
